I am writing this as I relax in the executive club area in Heathrow’s swanky new terminal 5 building. I have helped myself to a third portion of free vegetable curry and rice and my second glass of complementary wine.

The streets of Mumbai
It was only a very small part of the total trip, the journey by car from Mumbai domestic airport to its international big bother. But it had a very profound impact on me.
Delhi – Organised Chaos
It’s not possible to encapsulate Delhi into words or organise the place into neat observations. On one level she is a fascinating jumble of colour, history, religion, language, food and geography.
Getting in a lava . . . .
I had to have a word. It really wasn’t good enough. The brute had caused a whole lot of people a whole load of disruption and inconvenience, and not inconsiderable expense. And all because he had overheated and over-reacted without warning, and without, frankly, any good reason to do so.
Escape from Hungary 1 – Eruption Disruption.
This was my fourth visit the state of the art Specsavers optical laboratory. It is designed to become one of the leading centres for spectacle manufacturing in the world. Where is this flagship facility?
Escape from Hungary 2 – fast car across 6 countries
Within 10 minutes of setting off in our lurid green car we were on the M1 – the Budapest version– heading west. Our journey was, a little surprisingly, mainly west, with just a nudge north. Tony had baggsied first drive – his eyesight was unable to cope with the night (something he hadn’t mentioned before).
Confessions of a Solo Traveller
Here I sit on flight CO1421 somewhere over the southern states, my iPod churning out music from home. I have heard jazz in New Orleans, Cajun in upstate Louisiana and all sorts of stuff in Mexico.
A busride into History
Today I took public transport to Teotihuacan – the remains of a complex of pyramids and buildings which was once the greatest city in Central America.
Mexico Taxico
Why do we all insist on travelling in cars? In New Orleans we had taken the shuttle (into town) and the tram (down the river front) and the boat (up the river, where else?) and the bus (to Walmart). But touring Louisiana in anything other than a hire car, would have been impossible.
Mingling with Mexicans
Today mingled with the Mexicans. I didn’t hear a single English or American word until after 5pm. I spent the day feeling quite conspicuous with my blue eyes, camera and thick Lonely Planet book in hand.
